i helped open a furniture and flooring store in 2003 and by 2004 we did over 1.8 millon in sales.i love a challange and in calais maine it is a challange to sell anything,people are what you make them fell when you first apparouch them in the first two minutes of conversation.calais maine

I agree with Philip Flood, also treat each customer as if they are the only one you have. And if they ever have a problem take care of it asap!!

Product knowlege is key to any sale. Make sure you can answer all questions being asked. If you do not know the answer to the question, tell the client you will find out for them. The more you know the better you the better you will be. Try "Needs Based Selling". The phone companies have been usuing this for years. By creating a general conversation with the client, you will get to know alot of information about them, alowing you to determine what thier needs and wants are with out asking directly. It works very well. I ran a a high end patio furniture store for 9 years. I included both these ideals into my training process, and help create a winning sales team.

Keys to any rep position:

-Does what they say they are going to do
-Works closely with their respective plants to know order status
-Works with store customers as appropiate
-Calls on every retailer with appropiate frequency
-Has excellent rapport with sales associates/ KNOWS EVERY ASSOCIATES NAME
-Totaly knowledgable of product program
-Is accessible at all times-retruns all calls immediately
--Looks for every traing opportunity including plant tours, off floor meetings etc..
-Knows strengths and weaknesses of competition that is in retailers floor
-Is familar with retailer's competition and communicates as appropiate
-Identiefies underperforming sales associates and does extra training with them
-Recognizes a job well done
-Meets with store management as needed
-Assures that floor samples are in perfect condition and has tools necessary to accomplish
-Has in place system to quickly learn abount new hires and immediately does training with them
-Knows associates days off to assure store visits are made at optimum time
-Plans work and daily travel to maximum productivity
-Studies available sales and pentration reports to identify growth opportunities
-AGRESSIVELY PURSUES NEW ACCOUNTS!!

First and foremost should be a complete belief in the product you sell. Your genuine passion will shine through and your product knowledge will naturally be better. After sales service will get repeat business. Care and ethics the same
