Nancy in Dallas, Texas said: Hi, It depends on what technology you choose. There are few GIS software players like ESRI, AuroCAD, MapInfo and GE Smalltalk. Now ESRI is hot and you could be earnning in 80K plus for few years experience. |

Try looking at resumes on gjc.com, you should find some Texans there. |

Hi Mike, Thanks for your e-mail. I went to the website you suggested, but it was for a landscaping stone company. Could you recheck the GIS resume website you are talking about, and send me the correct info. Thanks for your help! |

Dont know about Sudan, but in Texas the GIS hotbed is Houston working for Oil and Gas companies. You really need a Computer Science degree or a Geology / Geography degree with a CS minor. Just as important though is experience. Working with GIS software libraries should be a minor on their own but nobody has that type of program, so you have to learn that stuff on the job. In the short run, you would be a GIS Analyst that has programming as part of their job description. After a few years of putting your CS skills to work solving GIS problems, should have you free & clear for jobs from $70k - $100k. |
