I'm an undergrad student in mechanical engineering, and I'm looking to switch my major to geology.
I am good at and enjoy math and science, and I am very passionate about natural processes and the outdoors. Also trying to avoid a desk job... so geology seems like a good choice.
But, just wondering, is it common for people to get an undergrad degree in engineering and then get a masters in geology? And if so, what types of careers would be available? It seems like those type of jobs would be with oil & gas companies, and that really does not appeal to me at all.
I know its probably a little too early to think about specializations, but i am interested in hydrogeology. Any info on what types of jobs are offered in that field would be awesome.
