I am interested in becoming an HR specialist the only problem is that I am over 55 years of age and have heard many say that I will encounter problems finding a position.

I have about ten years of experience in HR (mostly staffing), and it seems like it is generally a somewhat difficult field to break into. In my experience this is because there are usually not a surplus of positions available, HR people may not move around as much as other career fields and HR is not a profit or revenue center, so cutbacks and outsourcing can become a reality in a down economy. You didn't mention your background, but I've seen candidates hired with little or no experience who have at least a BA/BS degree and the soft skills necessary to be successful in HR.

A Recruiting Coordinator or other staffing support position (especially contract) might be a good "foot in the door" as the economy improves. Best of luck to you.

I am graduating in June with a Bachelors in Management and wanted to acquire a Masters in Human Resource. My age is 58. Reason I was skeptical about the Masters was because of friends telling me I will have a problem finding a job at my age.

To Christinea5575,I'm trying to break into the HR field as well. Now, I don't know about Arizona, but there are ALOT of HR jobs in the Chicagoland area. I've been searching for a month now and haven't gotten much response. I really think that it's going to come down to decreasing my salary requirements or getting an inside connection (which is silly, but that's what I think is going on). To Undergraduate in El Paso, I think it depends on who you know and what the job market is like in your area. Take those into account before you make your decision, and unfortunately your age will probably play a factor as well.
