Hello my name is Dan Bevan and I live in Saugerties, NY. I am currently considering a career change to become an HVAC technician. However, I have some concerns about driving company vehicles. I was recently arrested for DWAI ( for those of you that do not live in NY, this is a misdemeanor charge, not felony DUI or DWI ) and the court case is still pending. Will I still be able to get a job with a company if I am convicted of this crime?? Are there positions in this industry that do not require employees to drive company vehicles?? Please let me know-----

We are an HVAC Company of 48 ee's - we look at the larger picture when it comes to driving record, such as how long ago was it, is it just one offense, how old you were at the time. For example, I have one guy who is 25, and has several speeding tickets on his motorcycle, but nothing at all in a vehicle, so our insurance agent sees that and says "young kid on motorcyle" and its not a big deal. There is a huge need in the industry for HVAC technicians, so I would say, yes you can get a job, just keep the license clean from this point on and learn ALL that you can. See if you can intern somewhere, even if it is a non-paying position. Get the universal certification, and appear clean-cut, and clean shaven when you look for a job.
