I cannot believe what these people have the nerve to charge for Basics! 20,000?! Are they nuts? Now, it's not only Paul Mitchell or Aveda charging this, it's even the cheaper schools. These new students are being completely sold false hope, am i wrong? Basically, anyone is let into these schools, talent or no talent. If you have a palse and a social security number, you're in. With hair, you either have the talent and drive or you don't. So, what if you don't? You're out 20 grand? Bullocks! You're better off going to the biggest crap in the wall and get your liscence. Then get your butt to Vidal Sassoon or Aveda for your continuing education. All beauty schools teach the same basic fudamentals, period. Sure, the more expensive ones have a little more bells and whistles and "carreer help" but it's not anything you can't aquire on your own once you have your liscence but working your butt off (which you're gonna have to do anyway even with a paul mitchell education). Do people honestly think that going to Paul Mitchell or Aveda is going to guarantee them a free ticket to hollywood or they're going to be the next Vidal? No way! |

You are so Right ....I went to a Paul Mitchell school.... and can I just tell you I wasted my money BIG time ! I am so angry about this still 4 years later ! and No I am not doing hair right now ! I had to return to college to get a real education for a job that will pay my bills ! There were 14 in my PM graduating class and only 1 is a working stylist ! Good luck and don't waste your money ....cause those people are only money hungry.... |

Wow. That sucks. It's not only you, either. Think about how many people they enroll a year. I mean, cosmetology can be a fun career and rewarding. I know many successful stylists who own their own shops but guess what? They didn't pay 20 grand for their licence. When you start off in the industry, you're dirt poor. You have to really build yourself up and a 20,000 loan payment really sets you back. |

I understand how it is expensive...however, all schooling is expensive...I mean what if you go to a four year college and pay tons of money then get out into the real world and realize its not for you? Well you wasted ALOT more than $20,000. And alot of different careers require you to build a clientele base, not just cosmetology. Everyone is behind in the beginning, but you work hard and you will finally catch up. :) |

I have a student loan for 7500$ at the best school we have in Anchorage. My color teacher went here and she represents Goldwell here in Alaska. I personally love my school. Admittedly it's run strange, and I've never been to a place where teaching happens by everytime you make a mistake you get chewed out, but otherwise they've given me a good foundation and I love what I do. I can't imagine it any other way. So...you just have to look. The school I am at was locally started by a family and has always been run by family members. I would think bigger companies just let whatever happen at their school, making money off students. At my school, they really care that when you leave you can pass your boards and make a living. Wether they like you or not. |

i had the talent and the drive. onto my 2nd year. i think it's a waste of money. been in an hourly mall salon. i made less then $15k last year. i use to have a job where i made double that. paying $16k for school to make less than what i paid for is a waste of time AND money. yes i like doing friends hair and the occasional fun clients, but dealing with b|tchy , numerous, busy , random , MALL cliental is NOT worth $8 an hour. I feel bad to them who loaned me money and myself who has to pay a sh|t load of interest on a state loan. don't waste your money unless you are in an area where the money WILL be guaranteed good OR you know people in the industry. i wish i would have spent the money on other things in my life... |
