How did you get your start doing health unit coordinator work, and what career moves did you make to get to your current position?

Do you need a particular educational background?

I am in my mid 50's and was out of the job market for 10 years, I kept busy with volunteer work in my community. I attended a 12 week accelerated HUC training program in my city of Cincy OH - not only did they teach me to be a HUC, they offered me a solid job search and it included resume/cover letter writing as well as interviews with 3 top hospitlas in the area. Also, a very important part was I was able to do 2 weeks of clinical work at one of those hospitals, they wanted to hire me on the spot! I ended going with another hospital even closer to home and I just love it! Good luck and do your research.

I cannot find a local college here in Tenn that offers the HUC program. I did find an online program (3 mos) that I get a certficate when I am done and can sit for the national exam. Would this be okay to do to get my foot in the door at a local hospital?
