Is the military an ok place to learn how to become a heavy equipment operator

I'm a laborer in a road construction company, it'll be years till I can become an operator, I'm wanting to know if joining the national guard as an equipment operator would help at all.

I'm also planning on joining the IUOE down the road.

you will recieve excellent training plus get paid
Union jobs are very scarce right now so you won't get very much training.
