Friendly approach (focused and interested, don't act like you are so laid back you are almost horizontal), professionalism, focus on the customer, they are a VIP whatever mood/situation you are in at work or at home.

Most of all (combining all 3 points above), remember that the customer wants to feel valued. They aren't interested in your life story so even if they ask anything personal, keep it brief and ambiguous. Show efficient friendliness and remember they are there for the food, not to meet you!!
