I am looking for an ID job and would like to move from academia to industry. However, when I look for ID jobs in industry, I feel that lacking of work experience in industry makes it hard for me to be a qualified candidate for instructional designer job. Most of the job postings require at least 2-5 years experience in industry. I have started sending out applications and got some phone calls for contract but not for a full-time job. Is contract common for instructional designer in the industry? Should I go for it to gain some experience in the field? I am also wondering about the career path of an instructional designer.
Thank you so much.

I did. Contract is a normal career path. At K12 it can also be a full-time job.

What's your background? Send me your resume or CV if you are still looking.
