I am doing research on Instructional Designer and Curriculum Developer for a work related project. From what I am seeing, the two jobs are used interchangeably even though the ID deals with the infrastructure surrounding training, and therefore is more technical and scientific in nature, and the CD deals with the delivery of the infrastructure. Can I get some input from the subject matter experts regarding the usage? Thanks.

I am an Instructional Designer. I have held the titles Instructional Designer and Curriculum Developer. To be perfectly honest, the title was usually simply a historical precedent at the company. There is no industry standard. There may be a standard for school systems, but not at the corporate level.

Curriculum suggests a relationship among the courses that you are developing. You are not simply creating a bunch of random courses to fill specific needs that spring up. You are actually building an educational system that would meet the training needs for a role or a department. I worked at a bank where we developed classes for any department that needed them, but we also had a supervisory curriculum that consists of group of courses that impacted supervisory performance overall.

I don't know of many companies that has the title "Curriculum Developer" and "Instructional Designer" in the same department. Regardless of your title, you are designing instruction.

I have run into people with the title of Curriculum Specialists who manage courses, but do not create them. Of course, in a pinch, they were asked to design courses.

This is not quite what you asked, but I have found that the following titles are essentially identical or are at least closely related: Instructional Developer, Instructional Designer, Instructional Systems Specialist,
Education Specialist, Instructional Coordinator (used in Occupational Outlook Handbook), Instructional Technologist, Learning Technology Consultant,
Distance Learning Specialist,
Courseware Developer, Curriculum Developer, Director of Education Technology, Director of eLearning, Director of Instructional Technology, Learning Management System Specialist, Knowledge Management Specialist, Performance Support Consultant, Content Developer, Content Management Specialist,eLearning Manager, Learning Officer

The title also can be most of the above with "training" substituted for "learning" or "instructional." Sometimes "distance" or "blended" is combined with "learning." "Interactive" or "multimedia" also can be in the title.
