Questions that I have seen or sat in on:
- Know all about the agency YOU are applying with. Have a folder for each application - research and drop background into each folder (target folders preparation) A real killer showstopper is not knowing the agency mission!
- Know about the AOR and AOI for the agency (includes LE agencies) [if you don't know AOI/AOR is then you are not ready] Area of Interest/Area of Responsibility - incorporates the mission and current events
- Know the background of the agency and proposed future plans for the agency (and how YOU fit - in complementing and increasing mission performance)
- Know current events that affect the AOR/AOI. For example if you were putting in for an analyst position at JAC Molesworth (the EUCOM intel center) then know what the top priorities are in Europe and what is the effects of those political, alliance, events in and out of country. If you are an Africa analyst - know more about Africa than the interviewers. If you are a CT analyst - know your last 10 major attacks - how they affected US forces/Govt and what happened today (date of interview). Lack of current events knowledge is another show-stopper.
For local/State LE agencies and departments --know the area crime and crime trends. Its all internet published. scan for the good and bad affecting the department- know about any recent scandals (and how you wouldn't have been there if asked)
- Answer the questions completely and don't BS.
- Internet search department/agency personnel and "Know" who the agency head is and some background.
