What is the best training for becoming a java j2ee developer? What types of ongoing training or certifications are necessary to be an effective java j2ee developer?

The certifications are nice to have. I think a good basic level is the sun j2se and brainbench j2ee cert. I think sun has made their process a bit much to really expect people to go through past j2se.
