misdemeanor stopping my job search

I received a misdemeanor 4 years ago. My ex was very abusive, the one night I fight back for myself I received a domestic violence charge. It was withheld but has prevented me from getting a job ANY where. It is the only charge on my record. No employer will even give me a chance. I am a single mom and need work, any advice?
