How to become a leasing agent?

I have always wondered and wanted to know the answer to this question.

I am currently looking for a new job, Im a travel agent who is 26. I have all was been interested in realestate and or becoming an apartment leasing agent.

Do they pay good? And can some one please inform me on how to go about and becoming a leasing consultant?

I do not live in LA, but the commission is great where I live. You get paid a base salary + commission. Commission is paid monthly. For example, you will get paid $150.00 per appt you lease. On average, I would lease about 30-40 a month or/$3000-4000 a month. The most profitable time is in the summer. This is due to the fact, no one wants to move in the winter. Again, you live in LA so the market is a little different. My sugggest is to get hired at a large condo or appartment where there is alot of traffic. Good luck.

First, you have to know a little about the field. You can get a job like that without having some kind of particual experience or schooling. Although, some companies are willing to train but the salary will be next to nothing or just commission only. Research online schools and local ones to find something in that area. Good luck

Pamela, I am not familiar with Georgia at all. I don't think you need a licesen for Georgia but you can contact your local county agency and ask. Try allied schools or PCDI. I believe they have real estate courses but not sure. Call any local real estate company and ask, that would be simple thing to do.

Leasing Consultants make beween $11-$13 per hour plus commission. Commission is usually a percentage of the lease amount or it is a flat fee, usually between $50 & $70 per lease. Hope this helps.

Candy, where are you relocating to? But, I would try your local college or just trying typing a key word into Google. Don't know what field other than Property Management but Gold Coast Schools have info on their website as well as Gray's. You can also call local property management companies in your area or just key word "Leasing Consultants" on any employment website. Good luck

I saw a position in Tampa for leasing agent with Pulte construction. They are HUGE. I'm sure you are too far from Tampa, but there may be an opportunity closer to you. check out PULTE Construction . Hope this helps.

Castlefinder - It's a catch it when you can down here. Depends where you are moving to. Just keep track on hotjobs.com or jobbing.com. The Leasing consultant is not a property manager property manager's position.Leasing consultant ONLY shows apartments and does the paperwork. The PM does it all, take care of budgets,inspections,general overall care of the property. You can be licensed as a PM or not. Depending on the size of the property. Hello everyone, I have an interview tomorrow with a company based out of Central Indiana. My previous job experience includes a lot of customer service including, retail sales associate, call center representative and flight attendant. What do you think? What does it take to be a leasing consultant? I feel fairly confident, especially since I was referred by an agent who already works for the company.

What do they normally ask at the interviews? I'm kind of nervous, but also excited! I hope I do well!

I did well at the interview, and they went ahead and forwarded my information on to corporate for the NEXT interview (there are 3 rounds of interviews, including the final one with the CEO...eek!)

Is not very hard to became a Leasing Consultant. You just need customer service skills and some sales. I am doing this and I can't say I love it but I work for a good company and I can move up.

You don't make that much money as a Leasing Consultant and you don't need experience. What you need is a positive attitude,friendly personality, good appearance and maybe some sales or customers service experience. Try something else, like Administrative Assistant. You might be better with that job and on top of that you have weekends off.

YOU CAN MAKE A LOT OF $$$$. You get a base salary - anywhere between $9.00 - $17.00 plus every time you lease an apartment and the person moves in you get $25.00 to $100 as a bonus (commission). It all depends on how good you are. If you have great customer service skills, are good at selling yourself and your product (the apartment)then the sky is the limit as to how much you can make. If this is the career you choose you will do well if you take it seriously. Pay and benefits vary from company to company. Apartment communities are rated as Low C (Which is a dump) to A+++ which is very high end and rents are very high up $3000 per month. A professional appearance will get you jobs quicker. Don't get caught up with the property management people who are there for a paycheck only, they will bring you down!
Go to a temp agency that specializes in property management as you will need fair housing law training.

Oh I forgot to mention you can go "apartment hunting" to get an idea on what the presentation is like. This will also help you make your decision as to whether or not you would want to work at that particular community. If the employee who assists you is rude and hateful do you even want to bother working with that type of person?
You can be upfront and tell them what you are doing, as every time you show an apartment and don't close the deal (lease the apartment to the person you are touring) it goes against you. The idea is to get a 33% or better closing ratio weekly. This is why you have to be good at what you do in order to make the big bucks!

Try applying at Archstone! They will put you through extensive training, as well as continuing education. They are a great company! Go to their website to apply www.archstoneapartments.com. A recruiter will call you to set up a phone interview, then an interview with the community manager. As long as you have at least 2 yrs customer service experience, you should have no problem getting hired! Good Luck!

There are many great property management companies that will provide training to their own leasing consultants. Most companies will hire those with no experience in leasing. But, typically, you should have strong customer service and/or sales experience, professional appearance, high energy and able to work well in a fast-paced environment. Finally, and most importantly, as Ms. Shirl has above, you should enjoy helping people. If you are sincere, that is key to leasing apartments. As previous manager of an apartment staffing company, I know what employers want, My advice is to gear your resume' towards the job you want. In the objective or summary at the top of your resume', describe what you can bring to the employer. Many people make the mistake of writing what they want out of a job. Instead, it should emphasize what makes you unique, and what qualities you bring. Any phrase or sentence that is unique is sure to catch the employer's eye.
Next, at the interview, relax and have fun. Let that passion shine through! It will either be real, or not. If it is real, the employer is sure to pick up on your excitement. It is not hard to get in with no experience by implementing these basic ideas. It is best to find companies that offer good training. Not just a seminar, but regular, supportive training. Read the ads closely. You can go far once you are in the door, with or without a college degree. 17 years ago, I began in leasing, then became assistant manager, then manager. Then I tried the flip side, managing the staffing company. Be patient, work hard! It is a fantastic industry to be in-Good Luck!

I currently live in Nashville, Tenn. and over 25+ years in Customer Servicing & Sales and am also an Insurance Agent since 2007. I have not had much luck with the agent position but live & breathe customer servicing. I was a salesperson at Dillard's when a owner who frequently shopped there told me that i gave great customer service and offered me a job as a leasing agent. I've made as much as 45000.00

Leasing Consultants get paid extremely well. Usually the company will give you a salary and then as you get people to sign or renew their lease most companies give you a bonus. Note depending on the company some want a real estate license because some real estate comapanies need leasing agents. Very popular profession!!

BG personell is conducting a FREE training seminar. This covers leasing and the all important fair housing aspect. Take advantage of it as most agencies will charge you up to $75.00 for this class. They will send you out on temp jobs but if you have super customer service skills and are eager to learn you could be hired. This field can be hard as it is a customer service field. However it can be very rewarding. You have the power to make a lot of money if you can perfect the art of sales and customer service. By the way BG personell is listed in Dallas but they do interviews once a week in Arlington. I have worked in this industry for over 15 years and started out as a housekeeper, to leasing consultant, assistant manager, marketing and training director, supervisors assistant to manager.
