No, you can't work in America with an Indian Library qualification.

Don't worry though, soon all the UK's library's will be outsourced to India.

For a librarian your spelling is appalling. The plural of library is libraries. It's no wonder India is taking all our libraries.

As a librarian I don't write the books - I just sort them into Dewey order.

Librarian duties and responsibilities in the world same. Librarian need Master Degree in Library and Information science. Every country have some sort of Accreditation system for their qualifications. Why Indian qualification not recognized in America & Western Countries.

Thanks

You must have either a MLS or a MLIS done in USA to work as a librarian in USA. Or if you have a Master's in specific countries it allows you to work there. I've just finished My Bachelor's in Librarianship here in Brazil, and now I'm working and saving some money (you must have around U$15,000 a year to do well without work) and do a MLS in America or Canada. Check this page: www.ala.org/ala/hrdr/educprofdev/foreigncredentialsevaluation.cfm

Hope I've helped!

As I said before, you must either hold a Master's Degree done in the US or in one of the countries that ALA recognizes. Check their website for more information: www.ala.org

It's been some time since I've changed my mind about moving to the US, is just too much trouble. Lately I've been thinking about moving to Australia. You don't need to hold a Master's there, a Bachelor will be enough. And the job market is also better.

I wouldn't move here. I wish I could move to Australia or Brasil. The job market here sucks and at least half the people are gun-crazed Tea Baggers who are determined to wreck it even more. There won't be a library left standing if those jerks get their way, and they will because at least half the American people are idiots who only listen to Rush Limbaugh.

Actually the big issue surrounding the job market in public libraries in the US recently is the constant budget cuts that are affecting all states. Librarians will need to readapt themselves for new fields of occupation.

Is it possible to work as a librarian in Brazil if you are US? Are there any English language libraries you know of?

Well, in Brazil libraries working on an English speaking environment are those of foreign countries embassies and some advanced English courses. You could also find a position on documentation centers of multinationals, mainly in São Paulo. But regardless of that you wouldn't be able to live here without a working knowledge of Portuguese.

Another issue is the fact that here the public sector is the one paying the higher salaries, and you must hold Brazilian citizenship to enter a civil service test...

The budget cut mania is a direct result of the gun crazed Tea Bagger mentality. They use government services but scream long and loud about how this is "Socialism." They act as if cutting the insurance companies out of healthcare will result in a big Red Square style parade down Fifth Avenue all the way to Main Street USA. (These idiots don't even realize that all it wil do is take a lot of money out of the hands of greed heads at the Insurance Companies. Yeah, those very same people who fly around in private Lear Jets and give themselves big raises of about $20N every year whether the economy tanks or not. That is money which BTW gets paid by employers who could otherwise use the money to HIRE people or at least raise their salaries once in a while. But like I said, the people of this country are too dumb to see that THEY ARE PAYING AN ENORMOUS TAX ALREADY.
