Do you have any tips to help prepare for an upcoming Licensed Practical Nurse interview?

Are there common interview questions that come up again and again?

Yes! What are your strengths & what are your weaknesses, how do you feel that you will benefit our facility?
Before you go on the interview research the company & do not work for Brookdale or Sunrise

I am a new lpn, I have not worked outside of my home for many years. I have been taking care of my parents until the end. Then I went to school and received my diploma for lpn. Do I list that on my resume.

Play up your positive points during the interview. What nursing skills did you use in taking care of your parents. Did you give meds,do treatments? What was their mental status ? Did you receive any training from visiting nurses or the like that you used. For instance if a peg tube was involved and you were taught how to tube feed and take care of the tube, then bring it up at the inter4view. State how long you took care of your parents. Also,if possible get references from those visiting nurses,or other healthcare providers,as to the type of caregiver you were.My comments would be for instance I took care of my parewnts,I was trained to be a caregiver to them,in the following way. I gave them meds, and became aware of their side effects, and the importance of giving meds on time. One of my parents was diabetic,I learned more about this disease and maintained my mom/dad on a diabetic diet. I learned to look out for complications like s/s of hypo and hyperglycemia. I administered insulin.
I think you get the idea, speak like a nurse while interviewing and giving your experience with being your parent's caretaker. Do not say,I have been home for many years, that is a negative. I would not pkace this on a resume,as you were not paid, and it was not a volunteer. You can play it up in a interview though.
