I'm just curious who certifies you to be a lifeguard i.e. in Canada we have the Lifesaving Society of Canada.

I am also curious awards/qualifications do you need to lifeguard in your area.
i.e. in the City of Edmonton you need your National Lifeguard Service Award, Aquatic Emergency Care Award & your Bronze Cross.
