I have a bachelors degree, two associates, am certified in CT, X-ray, and MRI and have not found a job yet, and its been 8 months. Seems the only way to get hired in MRI or CT is to have years of experience or start as a rad tech at a hospital and hope they have an opening sooner or later. Though I enjoy MRI and CT, if I could do it over, I would choose differently.

Ultrasound is saturated too.All of radiology is OVERSATURATED. The best fields in healthcare to get into right now are physical therapy or nursing. You will see tons of jobs in those two.

It's hard to tell I think. There is so many job offers online in MRI field ! They usually require ARRT and 1-2 years experience so there seems to be some demand !

Full time MR positions very rare. Most techs are staying put. Some per diem/part time. No benefits. It's ok if your only looking to supplement your current income. This is everywhere I believe!!!!!!

SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!! You will not be properly trained, nor will you get the clinicals needed. There are very few sites that allow ARMRIT students to come and work with them. So, you see them being pushed in low field magnets that don't do much of any abdominal imaging, heart imaging, vascular imaging...etc...and they will tell you that is not true...but, I know for a fact that it is! They just want your money, then when it's time to pass a test..you won't fail..after all that would make the school look bad, now wouldn't it?? Then clinicals come around and guess what?? You may, if you are lucky get a fairly decent site...but most are low field magnets with little experience in the more difficult exams. Just read any paper in Chicago, that is looking for an MRI Technologist. YOU won't see any that I know of that would even think of taking an ARMRIT student now. They want ARRT MRI Certified, and experience. Good luck with your schooling! So sorry for sounding bitter, but, they really took advantage of a good friend of mine...and after over $18,000, he still hasn't finished clinicals and, has NO experience with advanced exams. Unless ARMRIT just gives you the test questions so you can memorize them...best wishes in passing any boards!

take a guess why you see "tons of jobs" in nursing. TURNOVER. just spend one week on a med/surg or icu unit and you'll see why. been doing that for 10yrs.you guys have no idea. observed my brother who is an Ultrasound tech and his friend who is an MRI tech and was shocked at how little stress and responsibility they have. my brother even joked about it. hell when the lady getting an US next door coded they all waited for the RN to show up for compressions. No meds, No families bitching, No stress. No bitching from MD's. But yall go ahead, check it out, nursing school is waiting because there's "tons of jobs" out there.

With all due respect M in Durant, I have through my career worked in Radiology, CT, and MRI at a very busy Level 1 Trauma Center. We were on call for CT/MRI alone for 48 hours, sleeping at the dorm in a room to be on call when any trauma surfaced. I guess this is one situation where I think you maybe should judge other's by walking in their shoes. I realize that working in ICU is very stressful. But, I can tell you working in CT, when a patient comes in mangled from an accident, and, has to have a CT brain, chest , abdomen, pelvis, and cervical all within the first 10-15 minutes of their arrival is not an easy stress free life. I could tell you stories that would make your head whirl. But, I realize that anyone that would be so bold as to say something so insensitive, because, they have never worked in that position, wouldn't believe me anyway. Now, let us just speak about MRI a bit. As an MRI technologist, everything you do is around safety. No matter what you do, you have to be constantly alert that some dufus doesn't walk into your MRI suite without taking a pen or a lipstick out of their pockets...And, nurses love to leave scissors in their pockets real easily! Who do you think is endangered when that becomes a projectile missile and YOU, or your patient is is in harms way? Nursing is a highly skilled profession, but, I will say, I am so glad that through my many years in my work at the hospital, I have worked with nurses that respect my position as I do theirs! How sad and narrow minded you are to make a blatant statement, unless you ever worked in this field. Off my soapbox now.....

ok let the people decide. A poll i say. Ask nurses, MRI techs, think tanks on occupational stress, hell even ask the uneducated outside-looking-in public what they think, what they've seen or what they'd rather do. You may be right. Maybe nursing isn't stressful. I mean why in the world would starting an IV and doing compressions on a 2 month old baby coding while the mother and father are screaming at you be stressful? I mean it only happens every other day. big deal

Dear m in Durant,

You childish and unprofessional behavior only indicates to me that you are not who you say you are. I have no further discussion with or about you. Everyone in the medical field works very hard, and is over stressed. These are tough economic times. We are now doing the work of 2-3 people just because of all the cutbacks. So, please go humor yourself elsewhere.

I have read all these posts, even from months ago. MRI Linda says it all. Stay as far away from ARM-"PIT" schools as you can. It's a bogus organization. I am a Rad-Tech, and MRI registered. I went to an ARM-PIT school that went out of business. I had to pick myself up and then go on to find my own clinic site, which I did only because I was friends with a Radiologist. Most places will laugh you right out the door. I suggest to all people interested in imaging...find another career. NO JOBS. So if you are a high school student who thinks it's easy and there's some kind of "fast-track" to MRI...there isn't. Now go enroll in nursing school.

Well said! This is the exact reason why you shouldn't consider a job because of its salery or other perks...
