I'm interested in the MRI tech field but have some pain issues due to rheumatoid arthritis. I am not crippled by any means, but to spend 8 hours a day, everyday on my feet would be too much. However, I understand that techs get to sit down during the scans, so it seems that the job would call for short periods of standing and walking interrupted by long periods of sitting. I'm guessing the total amount of time spend on ones feet can be highly variable depending on the position. Any insights? |

The physical demands of MRI vary greatly from job to job. MRI jobs at most clinics are not very physical - mainly standing and lifting coils, interspersed with sitting. Most MR scans take about 20-30 minutes, so that's how long you will sit at one go. However; most hospital jobs require you to either transport your patient yourself from his/her room to MRI & back, or at a minimum help the transporter move the patient from the stretcher to the MRI table & back. With MRI scans becoming increasingly shorter and patients becoming incresingly heavier, MRI is fast becoming increasingly physical. Hope this helps! |
