I've been looking at some of the discussions on this website about Xray Techs. The people here have enlightened me to the fact that it simply isn't a field with a great supply of job opportunities. NOW, I'm thinking about becoming an MRI Tech. I am a junior in high school and have some time to decide, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me a bit more about the job outlook in this field. Is it better than that of an Xray Tech? Is it worth it? PS. I want to live in a studio apartment once I graduate, so salary isn't a big issue. And I would LOVE to get out of my state to work, so traveling to a new place isn't a big deal either. |

First thing I always say when people asked what I do is that I'm an xray technologist and also as a cat scan technologist and a pet/ct technologist. I'm also a mri technologist in the weekend only, in which I honestly don't care for but I do it for the extra cash. I became a pet/ct technologist recently and I have to thank for being an xray tech for it. Yes, it has the lowest pay in the radiology field but so what? It is respectable with respectable pay as my coworker would say who is also an xray tech and a pet/ct technologist. I'm glad I went to xray school just to get the experience after graduation and learn the different modalities of cat scan and mri. Trust me, it was well worth it and I eventually went to the nuclear medicine school. Today's market you are hired because you are a multi modality technologist and you are an xray tech even in a hospital. I've known mri techs who got laid off just because they are only mri techs unfortunately not because of their ability and it is sad. Would I pay 20k-30k just to learn MRI? Nope. I didn't even pay that much for nuclear medicine school. Actually if you add all my schooling years, it equal to less than that. Out of any jobs that are still out there honestly are xray tech jobs and ultrasound, but the xray jobs out there are still few but many compare to other modalities. Unfortunately, these jobs have bad machines with lousy employers. |

I am a Nuclear Medicine Technologist who is currently doing CT and MRI. Do I need x ray Certification to do PET/CT because that is my goal? Does anyone know anything about Jefferson PET certificate program. |
