I am a student in a Radiologic Technology program and I already know that I want to learn other modalities once I graduate. Since the job market is not so good I have been thinking about graduating and going right back to school for MRI. Would it be better for me in the long run to work a year or so before going back to school for another modality or just going right into something else? Thanks in adavance.

As an RT of 30+ years - may I advise you to be a person willing to start at the bottom and work your way up. Most of who end up in MR, CT Cath Lab had to pay our dues in the BE room!!!

I'm an x-ray student, and I am tired of getting grief from bitter older x-ray techs because students today aren't required to do BEs 24/7. It is called a colonoscopy, and they do them for a reason now. Yes, I give you credit for doing that because if it were apart of the job today I wouldn't do it. Any student in x-ray is pretty much expected to go to school for another modality. Times have changed lady. Get out of the dark ages!! So to the student above me, yes go into an additional modality. It WILL make you more marketable! As for when, that is a tough call because the market is saturated but it will empty again. The baby boomers are starting to retire so make yourself golden!

Go into has many modalities as you can and take as many registries as you can. That will put you ahead of the next technologist you are against for the job.
