Wondering what would be a better field to get into? I recently retired from the military and was never in any healthcare field so I'm not familiar with the job market for either. From this forum it seems that x-ray tech does not have a good outlook on the job market - is that true? I'm going back to school and trying to decide which one to pursue. Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

The field is flooded with X-ray techs, however if you get into that career you could always take it a step forwards and learn MRI, Nulcear medicine or CT. Some schools do not offer programs to MRI or CT directly but if you go into X-ray you can either learn MRI from the hospital you are at or there is a teaching software out there that may help you (RITE Start MRI). If you really wanted to go into this imaging field, starting with X-ray and going forward with a different modality would be your best bet.

Hello Tammy,
If I had to do it over again, I would choose PT assistant. After xray school, it could take you several years to get into MRI- and even then, there is no guarantee. MRI is pretty cool, don't get me wrong. I am not sure about where you are, but I see PT and PT assistant jobs very frequently. Seems like it would be better hours (M-F 9-5?), less hassle, etc. than radiography. Just my 2 cents.
Good Luck,
E
