I am a sonographer and want to study MRI but someone was discouraging me that it is a lot of physical work because you have to move the patients on the machine and you gat so amny muskuloskeletal injuries is it a fact? |

no, i don't think that it is a very physical job...well no more than yours...you still have to get the patients in the correct position to scan...and the tests sometimes last 30 minutes...lots of sit down time...i love it |

I'm thinking about applying for the radiology program at an accredited college and I was just curious what are some of the pros and cons. Is it possible to make 100,000 a year. I'm a problem solver and just looking for a stable carrer. Thanks... |

I am also a sonographer looking into being trained in MRI. Due to the repetitive motion consistent with our job I feel my body will not be able to do this into retirement. I wanted to know if there was anything established in Massachusetts to cross train a sonographer into MRI, ? on the job training. I |

If you love what you Make sure you do research before you jump in the water, for this job field, we train students non-stop at the hospital I work at and guess what? They have no jobs when they get out, the shortage in the imaging field died about 1 year ago, due to too many schools too much hype. Too many students and just not enough jobs. The papers and government reports keep telling people otherwise, but just look around in your local paper or on the internet in your area. You won't see a lot of jobs and most are on call or per diem. You also have to realize now that the market has gotten this way, any job you apply for is almost sure to have experienced tech's vying for it as well. Like I said the new students just aren't finding jobs. Funny thing is Ultra sound is still hot in my area, but no doubt it will die out as well soon enough. The imaging market is dead, nursing is still alive of course if you want to do that, it pays much more than imaging as well. |

I am not sure that MRI is anymore physical than any other imaging job, yes you have to move hard to move patients and that can be back and shoulder intensive you just have to be careful. |

Does anyone know the best MRI schools in san jose, california? Thx. |

MRI Tech in Lansing, Michigan 44 months ago |
Hi, I'm not sure about San Jose but there are a couple of quality MRI programs in Michigan. MSU/MRI has a 9-month program. Placement is near 100% even with the influx of techs. I've been in the field for a long time. Lifting all depends on the site - hospital vs. outpatient clinic; open MRI vs. conventional (smaller scanner generally = smaller patients). Probably the most lifting would be an open scanner in a hospital. |

I'm REALLY interested in MRI more than anything, but also want job security. Is possible to get a nursing degree, which will provide that security, but obtain an entry level radiology with it (which is the field I want). Any insight would be greatly appreciated. |

Chris, I know there is a 6-month MRI cert program at Beaumont Hosp. - but you'd have to be certified as a Rad. Tech. first. |

Sure you may work at a outpatient facility where you do 40min scans but without the serious background in MR, someone like me R.T.(R)(MR)(CT) will tap you on the shoulder one day and take your job. If you are not dedicated to knowing anatomy and physiology then stay in Nuclear Medicine or Ultrasound and let the REAL TECHNOLOGIST give the patients the care they deserve. Thank you PS if you cannot master your first modality then you will certainly fail at your second. |

MRI now known Professionally as MR since we do MRA's, MRI's, MRCP's, MRV's, etc.. is over saturated so only the best with multiple modalities under their belt and years of knowledge will keep their jobs. |

It is much easier to become a RN(Nurse) Nursing is easy and can be paid for by countless programs vs. working for free in Radiology as a Tech for two years on top of a A.S. Degree. Nursing is easy and in demand |

My Siblings are Real RN's not the kind that have been produced in the last 10-15 years(complete idiots) but in Radiology we at least get good laughs from the things nurses do, until they hurt someone with their limited training. I am like most Technologist, I just help the nurses out as much as I can, they thank me for my help all the time and I never embarrass them in front of the patient. The stories we could tell--Scarry |

Kira in Jensen Beach, Florida 37 months ago |
You are absolutely right. In fact, the few students that managed to land a job in the last few years are in serious danger of being replaced by a more experienced technologist. This occurred 5 years ago when the market was flooded with 2 year degree Nuclear Med Techs, those two year graduates later lost their jobs to the 4 year grad with a background in x-ray. MR is unlike other Radiology modalities. In 1985 we only had 25 parameters to work with in setting up a pulse sequence by the year 2000 there were over 3000 parameter changes that could be made. I went to train the staff at a large hospital in CA and their T2 images were really PD images, I can only imagine "How many patients paid not only for shabby work but for misdiagnoses". Point being, we will be going back to the way it use to be, if you want to be a MR Tech(It is MR now because we do MRA< MRCP< MRV<MRI etc.... you will have to have a background in xray and CT at a minimum. When I was in college you could not be accepted into Emory Universities MRI Program(#1 in the world) without 5 letters of recommendation, background in Xray and CT as well as cross-sectional anatomy. Nursing is a sure thing and Pharmacy

YOU WILL HAVE A VERY DIFFICULT TIME FINDING A JOB IN BOTH Dianostic X-ray and MRI after you graduate and take the registry. The statement about the diagnostic x-ray and MRI flooded markets is definitely TRUE. I am living in a city with one of the the largest medical centers in the world (Houston) and having a hard time finding a simple job in X-ray. I honestly kick myself everyday cause I didn't get into nursing. The pay and demand for nursing is incredibly high compared to anything in medical imaging. THEY ALWAYS NEED NURSES at hospitals while there is a limited amount of need for imaging positions. The only things about nursing that are bad are the long hours they want you to work cause they need help so much, the danger of getting emotionally attached to patients, and the dosage and needle sticking. However, they get paid extremely high and can move anywhere in the U.S. and find a job quickly. Unlike X-ray and other imaging modalities which are low paying compared to them. Just a warning and what you are in for if you are thinking about getting into MRI or X-ray.

." I went to train the staff at a large hospital in CA and their T2 images were really PD images, I can only imagine "How many patients paid not only for shabby work but for misdiagnoses". This is a lie. You are saying not a single radiologist at a large hospital realized that the t2 images were pd images untill YOU came running in to save the day? I am calling you out for the BS artist that you are.Liar. |

No worries there are a thousand Other techs that can tap u in the shoulder if you are being paid less than nurse, because that would indicate your limited education in radiology or that u took on On- line course . On line techs are not allowed to work with fluori or in a facility with over 150beds |

I simply see you for the hot air bag that you are and have no respect for you, or people like you. Now why dont you explain to the forum here what the TR and TE were on these T2 images that were really PD images that ONLY YOU were smart enough to notice at this LARGE HOSPITAL.....where not one technologist or radiologist caught it. It will be real interesting to hear what lie you will come up with:) |
|
Kira in Irvine, California 35 months ago |
Radiologist complained about for a long time before I got there but their
To the real techs out there stay open to learn , ignore people who practice medicine without a licence or who think $ has anything to do with liking your job. RN's are paid the same as RT's but RN do not get double pay for carrying a pager and being called in. Respiratory therapist and ultrasound techs are also in high demand . Echocardiologist is great job too. |
|
Kira in Irvine, California 35 months ago |
It was a FRFSE-XL pulse sequence and they used a even echotrain instead of a odd echotrain to compensate for the extra pulse at the end, and to shorten the scan time they lowered the TE as well. In 1985 there were 25 parameters to change in MR in 2000 there were over 3000 parameters. Trained techs set up the scanners for idiots like yourself and then you cheap help mess with it thinking you know something a Professionally trained tech of 15years did not? By you changing it takes times for rads to get pissed off and then tolerate your stupid A223 coming in--you know the rest:-) Radiologist read a great deal of crap thanks to undertrained staff and then we wonder how patients get misdiagnosed--How many people(exams) do you think the radiologist can call back only delaying a Dx for the patient and the MD. There is a shortage worldwide of Radiologist so why force them to read your crap..? Shut up and read up:-) |

Texas--Where the heck do you work-you say the nurses have a high risk of needle sticks? Do you have suck little education where you work that you do not start your own IV Site, heck are you even CPR certified? I am sorry this is fun. I work with really intelligent physicains and technologist where we train students the right way as we were trained. You are amuzing.. |

You are misinformed. I, like most technologists I know attended a traditional program. There are a few "limited licensure" programs around throughout the country...and those techs are limited in the types of studies they are allowed to perform. There is no such thing as an "online" technologist. If you don't know what you are talking about, then please SHUT UP. I no longer perform or care about X-ray KUB exams...and no matter how I answer the question you will claim there is a better technique....so I will not be wasting my time playing your silly games. I just came here to expose you for what you are..people like you literally make me want to puke...and I enjoy putting you in your place:) |

Texas-Sorry you are clearly a MORON.. I hope you can vent here on the internet and it helps. I would hate for you to freak out at work like this...Scary and as for vocabulary, thank you for saying I have a good vocabulary because I seriously think I wrote to you in my sleep, no brainpower wasted on you...I have not put one real thought into responding to your rambling but it seriously helps me to read you freaking out without making any sense at all on a sight where people just want to know what field is what and what might be in demand-The only person answering questions properly or acting normal is Candi |

Kira in Irvine, California 35 months ago |
OK Texas you clearly have no idea about xray therefore you should not be allowed to move foward in any modality.Who is too dumb to remember working in xray. Xray is where we were born you idiot. There are many different answers for that simple question and you could not get it,,,Holy Crap you suck:-) You expose nothing except for what a clueless moron you are----anyone on this site could answer that question-it was on your registry Oh wait you clearly did not pass the registry or you passed and went immediately into another modality and only know button pushing-You are dangerous if treating patients, you are exactly the person that needs to be exposed, putting out crappy work..I am laughing my butt off-you actually cannot answer the question-I answered yours? |
|
Kira in Irvine, California 35 months ago |
Texas quotes "I no longer perform or care about Xray KUB's"--that right there indicates no real training it is like the student who says "I did too many chest xrays and do not need to do any more" or the xray tech of five years who hung stated "I want to do CT, I already mastered Xray" as she hangs a PCXR of a kyphotic 80 year old female, with pt's chin in chest, and her c-spine clipping 8cm off the pt's lower lung(cost angle). Yeah she mastered xray. I know xray techs that have stayed in their field for thirty years and are untouchable, speak respectfully of xray, you Loser> As if!!!!!!! you even know the modality.. |
