By and large mailroom clerk jobs have been declining as businesses streamline their operations by centralizing their mail services. Secondly although salary.com says that the average mailroom job in chicago, IL pays around 13.44/hr its been my experience that most mailroom jobs dont pay much more then minimum wage. This can vary greatly though depending on where you work. I worked for a bank and medical facility both who are opposed to spending alot of money on operational expenses. A law firm on the other hand may pay more in line with what salary.com is saying is the norm.
