one of the most important things a supervisor should do to have his crew work together as a team is to make sure ever person knows what his job is and how to do it best.
second most important is the supervisor must be approachable, if you team members are afraid to come and ask you for information or they are intimated by you this will not be conducive to a smooth running shop.
third most important is the maintenance department is the costumer service arm of the establishment, if you can train you crew to understand that the same costumer service
they extend to the public, needs to be extended to each other you will have a team that will work together, help each other, and respect one another. That supervisor will be surprised with the work that is accomplished and the positive attitude your department have.
You are in-charge, not only is it your job to get the work done but also to manage those who are under your supervision. There attitude is going to reflect you leadership skills.

Well to begin with you should work for a company that has good property managers and regionals employed within the company, if you work for a manager thats an butthole and dosent want to see his/her employes make decent pay they will be buttholes and not recommend that you get a raise or pay increase, so first thing first is do your homework on the company you plan on working for.

One of basic items of good leadership is knowledge of the business and the end product as well as your basic maintenance skill sets. Not sure if your old school Maintenance Supervisor or not. But I can tell you that years ago if you had a solid electrical background it was considered a big bonus when looking for a new JOB. So long as you meet all of the other basic good leadership traits and maintenance skill sets.

These days you are expected or required to have a strong PLC knowledge and / or high speed related systems and robotics. So my tip for you is pick up that extra bit of knowledge if you don't have it already and if you have it the basics down-packed ...stay, up to date. Its worth its!

1st always remember that maintenance workers are a service to all other departments , and every department's request is first priorty which then makes you learn how to juggle your workers.
2nd give your workers repect and you will get the jobs done along with respect being returned from your team.
3rd is always make sure they know that you are the leader and will stick up for them if they are correct ,along with the disipline approach if needed.
This makes a well rounded teamwork effort to get things done along with pleasing you with their efforts
