How do marketers search for Information?

I am very interested in knowing how marketers search for data. I am doing a research and it would be really useful if you could answer these couple of questions. What tools do you use to find statistics and percentages on specific industries? I imagine that the internet is a great tool, but how do you use it (internet) to help you find information?
