copy writing is a great skill to have in the industry. your manager will be happy to have someone who can edit and write. be able to multi-task and organize. in marketing you many have several projects happening at once, so you have to stay on task and be flexible. being a self-starter is also key. as an assistant your manager will pass down smaller projects to you and want you to run with it and make it happen. make sure you know all your software...excel for budgeting, powerpoint for presentations, word for all the letters you'll write, access.... if you have design software experience, that's a plus. non-profit organizations are a great place to start out in marketing.
