A successful Marketing must be able to:

Think out of the box
Be creative
Communicate
Be passionate about the product

If you are in love with the brand or product, if you understand how it works and its features and benefits then this is a great start.
If you have the ability to think different and put yourself in the shoes of the person who is going to buy or use this product then you are half way up the ladder.
If you can be creative and use techniques that are going to grab the audiences attention then you are almost at the top of that ladder.

To reach the top of the ladder you need to be able to communicate - with your team, with the audience.
