What is the best training for becoming a marketing representative? What types of ongoing training or certifications are necessary to be an effective marketing representative?

What do non-traditional career paths look like?

The majority of companies request applicants to hold a Marketing Degree however it doesn't always have to be this way providing you can demonstrate relevant skills and abilities.

I am a Recruitment Consultant and now hold relevant experience is search optimisation and general marketing skills.

Most of us at sometime in our lives have marketing a product without even realising that we have done so. To break in to a career in Marketing without having relevant qualifications is not impossible it's just about how you present the skills that you do have.

To be a successful Marketer you need to be able to think out of the box and be creative.

An example of non traditional career paths for Marketing is a Community Manager.
A person who has a passion for Video Games or Social Networking who has excellent customer service skills and enter the Marketing career by taking this path. The person needs to be outgoing, conversationalist, organised and have excellent written skills and obviously a passion for the subject of the chosen forum. Many people who have had this role go on to be Brand Managers/Product Managers and general Marketing roles.
