Benefit of credential evaluation for foreign trained mechanical engineer

I am a foreign trained Mechanical Engineer and want to get in to the system here in North america. I was been told by other people that I need to get my degree evaluation either by WES or other institute. will this evaluation help me find a job? does anyone have any experience about usefulness of evaluation?

As far as I know, a lot of Mechanical engineering jobs doesn't require any certification, just your BS diploma is enough, but that is for US grads. I do however know that PE licenses is out there for few employers that just want you have a certification but those licensed engineers also command larger salaries and years of experiences.
