What are some of the most common and useful CAD programs in the engineering industry? I graduated with my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in May, and I'm trying to teach myself some marketable skills [no job offers yet]. The college I went to is ABET accredited but I don't think it gave me enough computer background. I have at least heard of Solid Works, Inventor, Solid Edge, and Pro-E, but which should I learn first? |

You just graduated from an abet accredited school in Mech Eng and they didn't teach you any CAD? Sorry, I'm just very surprised by this. I'd go with SolidWorks, Pro-E, or AutoCAD. I've been using SolidWorks for 9 yrs and I think it's easily one of the best out there. I use COSMOSworks for FEA (please tell me they at least briefed you on FEA in school). I was recently laid off from a company I worked at for 12 yrs. Anyone need a product design/development engineer? |

Pro-E, Solidworks, and Autocad are the most you will need. Ofcouse you will need to know how to use Pro-mechanica in Pro-e and COSMOSworks in Solidworks. |
