I am a virtual assistant and was wondering: If I wanted to expand to the copying of medical records, is there a certification I may take? I do some work in the field and get the feeling there are no rules let alone a certification but thought I'd ask.

To "copy" records? If you just want to work in the HIM dept (Health Information Management Dept) and copy records or process records, you can become an ROI(Release of Information) specialist or just a medical records clerk. You do not need a degree or certification. RHIT is a type of coding certification & is not always needed just to simply work with records. I have a CPC from AAPC and I am currently an ROI. I did NOT need a degree for the ROI position-I am waiting for a coding position to open.
