I am looking to get into medical sales. I recuiter specializing in medical sales has recommended my take the RMSR Training through the NAMSR. Has anyone taken the course? Do medical sales companies look for the RMSR Training on your resume? Is the RMSR training just for medical sales? Can I only take the RMSR training through the NAMSR?

RMSR TRAINING--I work for a large staffing firm which recruits for medical sales reps and many of our large medical clients will ask for as well as seek out the RMSR training in resumes. I recommend this training to several of our candidate clients. The RMSR training should help you.

Hi Cheryl,

I was downsized in clinical research as a professional (3 years), and have a background in pharma sales (4 years) before a PhD. I really need a job. I am an overachiever, and won many trips and bonuses as a sales rep. Would your clients be interested in my qualifications? I saw an opening for DM in my area. I am not able to get on as a Medical Liaison with no experience.

I took the RMSR training because my company Abbot Medical wanted me to. It was great for acquiring industry knowledge that I did not have. I think the RMSR Training will really help with a medical sales career.

Hi Cheryl,
I am a licensed real estate agent seeking a new career path in Medical Sales. My wife is attending CRNA school and thought it would be a great long-term approach for us to be in the same field, healthcare. I've been doing some researching and came across the RMSR certification. Will this help get my foot in the door? I was turned down to be interviewed with Cook Medical at a SalesTrax employment fair because I didnt have a degree. Will I need to finish my BA or will a two year techical degree work, say in Radiology Tech?
Thanks,

I don't have a degree and received my RMSR about 3 years ago. I work for a Cardiology company presently but looking to get into Orthopaedics. If anyone hears anything please post here. The RMSR programs is very valid and they have good leads for people looking to break into a medical device sale career.

Hello A Kline,

We have two articles published on our Blog for your resource in how to break into Medical Sales and Pharmaceutical Sales.

recruitbuzz.com/blog/category/medical-sales-how-to-break-in/

If you are a RN and hopefully a BSN, I would suggest you get a "hard core" copier rep. sales job or ADP job. Both articles will help you and links to get you where you need to be!

Good luck and Happy job hunting!

I am 47 and received my RMSR about a month ago. I have been interviewing with quite a few medical device companies. Most of them have been medium sized medical companies and some medical distribution co's. My age has not been an issue as they seem more interested in my sales background and recent medical sales training. There seems to be quite of bit of growth within the companies I am interviewing with (cardiology-heart stints, diagnostic testing, imaging device and an orthopaedic device). I am supposed to hear back next week and crossing my fingers for a positive response.

My company is expanding nationwide and are looking for individuals who are highly motivated and have a clear vision.I have a dermatologist created product line, from the most noted and quoted doctors in the industry, that is changing people's skin in dramatic ways. These products have OTC medicines with proven clinical results, especially in addressing the big problem of sun damage. It is a very exciting career with great income. Interested, contact me for your phone interview.

Wanna break into medical device in Bakersfield, California

I have been employed by several large reputable companies, Hallmark Cards, Coke, Pepsi, Colgate and J & J. I was recently laid off and did some soul searching and really like the medical field, but prefer to sell tangible items (medical device) vs intangible (pharmaceutical). I have interviewed with one device company thus far but after I read your posts I have decided to take the RMSR training. I do have a MBA as well and I am willing to relocate for the right opportunity.

If anyone has any other advice to help me land a medical device job, please let me know, thanks!

I worked for Pfizer and recently downsized. I am also a Registered Nurse for a vast amount of clinical experience. I have also registered for an esthetics program to receive my estheticians license. If you have a dermatological sales position open in the Bloomington IN area, please contact me. I have the esthetician program completed in November.

I have a Bachelor's in the Science of Nursing as well as additional graduate level courses. I have six years clinical experience as a Registered Nurse in Surgery, Cardiac Critical Care, and Medical Intensive Care. I attended Anesthesia school completing most of my Didactic courses and 90 anesthesia cases before deciding to withdraw with a 3.67 GPA. I decided that my career passion was not to work as a CRNA, but instead I had the desire to start a career in the Medical Sales/Clinical Specialist Industry. I bought the RMSR program through the NAMSR and will take the exam in about two weeks. I have had advanced graduate level courses in Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Anesthesia, and Anatomy, and have had advanced training in the O.R. with various medical devices while in my Anesthesia clinical component. I have a total of five years of Outside Sales Experience for a Commercial Flooring Company and have been full time with this company since withdrawing from Anesthesia school in July, 2007. I interviewed with one company two months ago for a clinical specialist position and was asked to come back for second interview. After they eliminated all candidates except for me and another candidate, they offered the position to the other person who they claimed was the best choice because he lived closer to the territory that was to be covered. I hope the RMSR gives me the edge needed to get an offer. I will keep everyone posted.

I am currently working on the RMSR training course. I've taken a couple of the quizes and they seem to be pretty easy or I've just obsorbed the material mroe than I thought I have. But my question is, how similar are the quizes to the final exam? I know that the final test will be tougher, I was just trying to get an idea.

VERY similiar. The quizzes get tougher as you read further. Many definitions to learn. But the exams questions were very similiar.

I agree. They get a little tougher as you go along. The final exam will definitely have questions on it that you did not see in the quizzes.

Also would suggest joining the new MedRepCareers Business Network, collective information being gathered from numerous sources on Selling Skills, Interviewing Skills and etc., Not just one companies website where you apply to posted jobs. You may find it of value and I have most of my blog articles now up there as well as a growing number of people with medical sales management background now blended with recruiting. medrepcareers.ning.com/
This should give you a direct membership and all free. Good luck!

I just finished the NAMSR program and I am now a registered medical sales representative. I have a B.A. in Communications and a minor in Economics from San Diego State University. I also have 2 years of wholesale b2b banking sales and most recently I have been working under a sales rep as an associate selling microdermabrasion machines to dermatologists. (top producer as the wholesale account executive and exceeding revenue quotas as the associate).

Does anyone know of any companies that are looking for someone with my qualifications? I am in the Los Angeles area and I wanted to know if anyone could point me in the right direction. I just want a position that offers a base salary with commissions and benefits.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Peter

Craig, as a 46 year old executive looking to change careers I was excited to see you landed the job. Is it what you thought it would be? I too have no direct medical sales background but that is where I want to complete my career. Any suggestions? I have a lot of retail background and run my own business for the last 5 years - most of my sales is in training and incoming retail customers. One last thing - you said you completed the RMSR course - was that the difference maker? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I just finished my BS in Business Management/Organizational Innovation and have been trying to figure out what to do next. I have been on all the job boards applying for many medical sales rep positions with no luck. I feel this would be a good career path because of the many different areas one could go into. I then came across the RMSR. My questions is, is it really worth it? I am really motivated to start a rewarding career and just wanted to know if the certification is well looked at. Thanks in advanced, Paul.

Three cheers for the NAMSR (National Association of Medical Sales Reps)which has further raised the bar by requiring that all new medical sales applicants who want to work in the industry meet industry and certification standards. These standards are required by hundreds of medical device companies. Medical sales rep and especially anyone looking to break into a medical sales career would do well to get their RMSR Certification.

I have personally been involved with the NAMSR as well as the RMSR Certification Program since 2003. I have seen it become an industry standard. To any sales rep applicant starting out in the medical device industry, the RMSR Certification Program is the fundamental skill set to attract medical device employers. The best minds in the business have had input into the program. To not take advantage of the RMSR Program is unimaginable for any aspiring medical sales rep.
