What are the top 3 traits or skills every medical social worker must have to excel?

empathy, compassion and the ability to remain calm. Without these traits the social worker will not be able to assist the patient and/or family in resolving any issues that require social work expertise.

I was a Discharge Planner in a hospital for 5 years and hope this will help. One must be able to embrace diversity, your patients will be of all nationality. Time management is a plus. You have to discharge patients out of the hospital in a timely manner. They may be ready to go home or to another facility, but you must be ready with a plan. Organizational skills is a must.
