Wish, check out the texas tech site. They require a 2.5GPA |

danks todd, i know all schools require at least 2.5, some more like 2.66-2.75. But i want to know the competition level in getting into these programs. These one year post bac programs which are offered mostly in hospitals generally have a very small class - like up to 10 students. The thing is - many many people have a bachelor's in Biology/related field across the nation. I want to know from people's experiences if they had difficulty getting into these programs. thanks! |

i got into both programs i applied to i had a 3.45 undergrad. biochemistry degree..and one semester of nursing school(don't ask me). i think you should give it a shot if you have a gpa above the normal. i don't think they're that difficult. i think if you really like the field then they will see that. i just kept telling them i love lab work(which i do) on the interview.i'm starting at texas tech this fall. :) |

I got in with a 2.70, but i started out as a med tech major in my school so we just have to meet the minimum requirements to get a guaranteed seat into clinical year. They do the same thing with PA majors here, as long as they maintain a 2.70 they are accepted which is funny because it's extremely competitive to get in with even a 3.0 in other schools around the country as an independent applicant. |

My post-bac program had 5 spots, and 38 applications. That's a 13% acceptance rate. Not as difficult as med school, but far more challenging than entering most undergraduate colleges. You'd best apply to many programs, to improve your odds. |

I got accepted to St. John's, but they require me to meet their general education requirements which would take me another year to finish. So that's about 3 more years at St. John's. I already have like many loans out, so i just can't afford it, lol. |

Cali is pretty difficult, but the rest of the country is getting harder bc of the economy. The Texas tech says 2.5 but most in the post Bac have 3.0 or above. |

Some programs like SFSU consider your GPA from the last 60 semester units in addition to your prereq. grades, letters of rec, and experience. (This is how the schools work in northern California - point system)
In the end, they select the top students and match them with training sites that are willing to train them! Some stats - Fall 2010 SJSU admitted 16-19 students from 40 applicants who made it after the first cut off.
SFSU claims that 300+ students applied in the first step.
Have hope ifwishwerehorses! Just work on improving your grades, MAKE SURE YOUR PREREQ GPA is STRONG, and get experience that shows you're both serious about the profession as well as a great fit. Remember to have fun along the way! |

From an economic perspective, Medical Technology remains one of the fields which cannot (yet) be easily outsourced, and due to a combination of factors, faces a shortage. In a dire economy, Medical Technology offers a relatively stable future. Also, the field is indirectly getting PR from shows like CSI. Americans now "get" what lab personnel do, and think it's cool. The stats I posted above are from Ohio. |

Are there any post-bac CLS/MT programs that are online (I assume you have to find a local clinical site)? I live in FL and from my research I can't seem to locate any here (that are online). I can't move at this time, which is why I am looking for an online program. My local college has a program but is is not bachelor's level. I have a bachelor's and a master's degree but neither are in the life sciences. My plan was to take all the biology and chemistry classes this year and then apply to a post-bac for next fall. Any suggestions on the prereq science classes I should have for the post-bac and if there are any online programs anywhere in the country? Thanks |

My Suggestion is that you just take a gander at this website, plug in your state, your desired program (CLS/MT) and it will provide you with all programs accredited by NAACLS in your state. Be careful about online programs, though, since I have never tried online colleges/universities, I cannot say anything about their reputability. www.naacls.org/search/programs.asp Good Luck! |

the interview covered a lot of basics like why do you want to be a med tech, what led you to pick this career choice?, how do you study?, where do you see yourself in so many years? i got the feeling that they really want to know you as a candidate. they want to see that you're dedicated to the profession. i'm very enthusiastic about it and i'm sure they could tell. :) good luck if you're interviewing! |

Thanks Sharon, how long ago did you receive your degree? I was trying to find out if Texas Tech required courses to be completed within 7 years of starting their program? I couldn't find any info so I thought I'd email the program director to find out. |

Laurie in Vero FL, try the texas tech online program, you need a BS in a science degree. If you have that you take two full sememsters of online classes, right now one full week of labs, for the two semesters, then you start your preceptorship over the summer. Google texas tech online post bach program. |

It can be challenging to get an interview in California. My wife has a 3.3 I believe in her major GPA (developmental / cell bio) and over a 3.0 for her overall GPA. It has been very competitive and although she has gotten a few interviews, no acceptances. Hopefully this is the year. I suggest applying outside of CA since it's so competitive. |
|

Loma Linda would accept her and it's a two year program with no interview. Half the students have bachelor degrees already. |

@jw: I had an overall gpa of 2.7 and cls prereq gpa of 3.2. Point I'm trying to make: Your wife can do it. Just reapply - her application will get more points as a reapplicant. Also if she's getting interviews, her paperwork is great; she needs to up her interview skills. Don't lose hope! |

Wow, i cannot imagine ppl getting turned away from CLS programs. There are only a few as it is and there is almost always seats available at least here in NY. I applied with a 2.7 overall and I had a 1 minute interview before getting my acceptance letter the next day. |

Hi Chris,
I know that the MT guys on this board are *extremely bitter* and wish they could make all the MLTs vanish (lol), but at Pima you get an excellent education and I argue that many of our grads could pass the MT exam upon graduation. The program at Pima West Campus is definitely no joke and one of the best in the country. |

This will be my first time taking online classes so I am very nervouse also will I be able to work part-time while taking this classes?
