I am currently taking a Medical Transcription course and I am having a really difficult time with the transcription. I have been wondering if I've done the right thing by taking this course. My friend keeps telling me to check online to see if there are other jobs out there that I can do with the medical background (not necessarily the transcription portion). Does anyone know if there are any other jobs besides MT that I can get once I finish my course? Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get through the transcription part of the course without going crazy? I seem to be having trouble with commas and understanding some of the fast talking dictators that no matter how much you slow them down doesn't make any difference in trying to understand them. I have heard of run on sentences, but how about run on words or a better term would be mumbled words. |

I have just finished my course from u.s. career institute and i have been unsuccessful in finding a job. It sucks! who are you taking the course through? |

I am currently in the same situation. Which course are you taking? I am taking the MT course with career step. I agree, it is difficult, and at times I wonder if I made the right decision. However, I think that this is completely normal and the more time you put into it the easier it gets. I just figure with every report I screw up, I am learning. I am not sure what other position you could get with this training. There may be someone willing to hire you as a front office receptionist? Good luck. |

Who ever put those commercials on T.V. should be shot. I have been in med. transcription for over 17 years now. No one tells you that the hard part is learning to listen. Every time I get a new doc I have to learn his/her style, accent, and preferences. In the long run, if you are willing to hang in there, it is worth it. Ours is a job that is secure. The docs cannot do without us, as long as we are willing to go the length with them, and sometimes beyond. We are their alibi (if you will) in malpractice cases, their stat connection if they forget to dictate a letter needed for pre-auth, the ear on the other end they depend on putting their words to print. Trust me, you may feel as though what you are doing doesn't matter to anyone but you, but it matters to the doctors, nurses, MAs, insurance companies, malpractice attorneys, and last, certainly not least, the patients, even if they don't know it. If you are in it to make a quick buck, get out. If you are truly dedicated to making this job work for you, stick with it, you will be fine. Use all of your resources. Talk to people just like you are talking here. MTStar is a place to go, if they are still around. Email me if you need other resources, and I will find them. Research is also a part of this job. Anyhow, good luck to you all, and try to remember how important this job is. |

I am going through Allied Medical School. They sounded really good. I like the fact that they had a Job Assistance Network and that they also had a Career Center. I am just having trouble with the transcription. Which is driving me crazy. |

What exactly is it you are having trouble with? Can you be more specific? |

Basically it seems like punctuation. Where I think there should be a comma, they don't. Where they think there should be a comma, I don't. Sometimes I am just having trouble understanding what they are saying. Especially, when they are mumbling and talking a million miles a minute. I try to slow it down, but sometimes you just can't understand the mumble. Maybe I'm having a little trouble with grammar, but I'm not really sure. |

Ah, I see. I got a great book through transcriptiongear.com. It's called Medical Transcription Guide Do's and Don'ts. It's a great resource for the questions about punctuation and grammer. Unfortunately it is not going to make the dictation any clearer, and all I can tell you about that is you have to get used to the person's voice. Be patient. I promise it will pay off down the road. If you go to transcriptiongear.com to order the book talk to Ryan Marie Knight. She's great and can hook you up with anything you need. Are you guys allowed to have someone else listen to the dictation, one of your classmates? When I worked in an office we used to do that all the time, occasionally having the boss listen too. Anyhow, good luck to you. I hope some of this helps. |

Unfortunately, I don't have anyway to talk to any of my classmates. There is a chat center, but it never seems to work. So I guess I'm on my own there. Thank you for all your help. I am trying to be patient....waiting for it to just click (as I have been told by some that it would). |

There is a really good web site called mtstars.com. Check it out. You can even run words past them. It will click in, just try not to get too frustrated. School is so much different than the actual job. Good luck! |

If your instructor is marking something wrong on your work, they should also be providing you with clear feedback concerning why it's wrong! They should be referring to materials you have been provided from the transcription school, citing pages, paragraphs, etc., to point you in the right direction to reference these issues yourself and to underscore the correct punctuation, etc. Good luck! |

Be patient and try some online resources to help you out. A site like this would probably make things easier for you. medicaltranscriptionwordhelp.googlepages.com Mtstars, gomdt are other useful word boards. You can post questions there. |

Another useful resource that could probably help you is a Google search engine for medical transcriptionists. It searches MT and medical websites. Its called Medical Transcription Word Seeker - maybe you could use it to find your s/l's quicker. Just type "Medical Transcription Word Seeker" in quotes on Google and you can access this wonderful tool. |

A really good website that could make things much easier for you is this one. medicaltranscriptionwordhelp.synthasite.com You'd find a lot of useful word lists in there to help you. Also, there is a good collection of operative samples in there. Good luck!! |

I only have one chapter and the final left to go....but it's certainly not easy. If I post what I have trascribed, can you help kinda guide me in the right direction? I don't know anyone in the trascription field either and getting help from Allied is very difficult. Maybe I can even email you directly what I have....I tried pasting it in here but I don't think there's enough room... Let me know...I would really appreciate some knowledgeable help! Thanks! I've already transcribed everything including the final....just proofreading and trying to figure out certain sentences/words. Let's get you caught up to where I'm at and we'll work together/compare notes for the rest of it. Sound good? This program is making me pretty much insane...haa haa haa haa |

Here are some of the schools I am looking at. Any other recomendations would be great! Also who do the schools have to be accredidted by in order for me to work? Thanks so much in advance" A&H Training Corp
Again any help on any of these would be helpful. I am trying to get school done quickly and not work and just do school. Any help on anything that I can do quickly would be a great help!
