Instant Text

I was given a copy of Instant Text but need to know for single words that you type when a selection of words come up: For example the word "discussions, how do I get the word to type out when I get to and type out "discsss" and hit the spacebar I thought that it should type out. One side says "short" and the other says "word" and there are numbers on the left side. So, I even tried typing the number, which I think was "5," but it did not type out. So, if you have not set a short cut there still should be a way not get the word to type out after typing a few strokes. What am I missing!!! HELP!!! I have wasted so much time on this!!! Also the correct way to merge the medical glossary with drugs, etc, legal, contract. Actually, is there a way to merge all of them and name it, and if so, name it what!!! I am a medicolegal transcriptionist!!! Very lengthy stuff, workers comp etc. HELP ASAP PLEASE!!!

Are you using Microsoft or Word Perfect? I have never used Instant Text in my 25 years experience of medical transcription. I have found the easiest way is to just use the auto correction,
for instance I type in "bie" a whole paragragh my doctor typically dictates pops up. Also, example simple things like typing "lae" automatically inserts left atrial enlargement. Just make sure you don't use a shortcut like "er" for emergency room as many meds have ER. I know this sounds old fashioned but sometimes simple is easier.
