There are plenty of jobs out there for medical transcriptionists. Believe me, I am looking for one myself. Sometimes it's a matter of what school you graduated from i.e., Andrews, M-TEC, Career Step. Many companies will waive the 2-year requirement for those graduates. I have learned that it is also about timing, being at the right place at the right time to get your foot in the door. Again, depending on what school you are going to could make all the difference. You need to visit the MT boards online and read what other MTs have to say. I wish you much success! |

beverly smith in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 14 months ago |
well i think you need to remember that i am a nurse, so the school should not really make a difference. i will be looking for work out of my house and only on a part time basis bev |

The MT school won't matter. I'm also a former nurse. What the employer cares about is if you can produce accurately and timely. Knowing your medical terminology, A&P, being a rapid typist and accurate speller who can follow a format for specific procedures, along with confidentialy are essentials. Good luck to you. |

Having 6 years of industrial experience and a fast-touch typist with ability to type 65 words per minute I think I would be suitable candidate. This posting is for everyone who thinks they can get a job just by posting their desire for one in a public forum. Do you really think that the person who first posted this job opportunity is going to contact you based on your posting in a forum?? It clearly says to contact them at a particular email address. Also, can't you read? This individual posted again saying they have enough people. It's funny to see rather personal information that belongs in a cover letter posted for the whole world to see. Who is going to hire you if you're that lazy and can't bother to follow instructions? |

LOL Good luck acquiring an MT job to the nurse and the other one who think they don't need any hands-on experience in MT and that the schooling shouldn't matter. Can you say d-e-l-u-s-i-o-n-a-l? LOL Just because you're in the medical field doesn't mean you can land a job as an MT! No schooling or hands-on experience in the field of medical transcription? Then NO JOB - regardless of your current occupation! Depending on which accredited MT school from which you graduate, prospective employers will waive the generally mandatory 2-year MINIMUM experience requirements. Just because you can type and know medical terminology doesn't mean you will be successful as an MT! There's so much more to it; you have no idea. Don't make the mistake of assuming that just because you've learned one specialty in the medical field that you're now a pro in medical transcription. No. You're no MT. I'm SO sick of people getting on here thinking it's a piece of cake, wanting to "work from home" and thinking just anyone can do it. Just so you know, a newbie MT just starting out will be making little to no money in their first year (or even second year), EVEN, yes EVEN if your prior profession was a nurse or doctor or any other health professional. YOU NEED SPECIAL MT SKILLS to do this job well AND make money at it, and the only way you'll get those skills is with hands-on experience (in MT, not NURSING). You either go to a school to get that experience and in turn get the mandatory 2-year experience requirement waived by some employers...or you can TRY to find a job with NO experience and learn on the job (VERY RARE these days!), and in that case, you better have another job in order to pay your bills because you certainly won't be making any money from MT'ing for quite a long while doing it that way. To the nurse and the other one who doesn't think experience or schooling is necessary to make it in this profession, you're wrong. You'll see...! |
