During the econoic downturn many visual and merchandising positions were either terminated or canablized into other departments to save money. They did not realize that doing this would cause more stress on other departments. So, many retailers are looking to out source these positions to Merchandising companies or allowing vendors to control merchandise standards along with retail companies standards of excellance. With that being said, Merchandise Coordinator positions have increased as sub contacted work. Larger cities i.e., Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, etc.. is where you would find hire growth to meet the needs of the retailer.
