I'm a single parent of 3 in my late 30's. I currently work as a CNA but its very difficult to make any decent money at it. As I get older I really would like the dignity of making more money and not being so embarassed about my life. I was interested in studying to become an LPN but I have heard the program is hard and so many students drop out...at my age I am afraid to invest my time in something like that and wind up failing and winding up with nothing. I thought about signing up at the EKG/Phleb course at a local tech school. It sounds very thorough but I wonder how hard is it to get a job in this field just out of a course? Because if its the case that there are no jobs for new EKG techs then I'll just gamble on the LPN program. Because I would do anything to avoid being over 40 and still working as a CNA.

It's really hard finding an opening job for EKG Tech. I recently graduated from this course April and up til now i can't find an opening i did found several openings but i was too busy for some reason but yea i would do this while i'll be going to college thus january i hope i will find an opening so i can work already you know its a lame filling that you studied for that and til now you haven't work in that field i hate it! But yeah nice to hear other comments. My cousin and aunt they get paid around 16.76 per hour i think and full times? Its fine money :)

Depending where you are.. I think its all timing and how you sell yourself.

Have a completed course.
Sell yourself in an interview (like any interview).
most importantly, know what you are talking about!! Most places will give you a rhythm test.. so know your rhythms and how to measure them.

What makes it hards is that some places look for experience with telemetry or in a medical setting...

It took me a few months, but I kept up my knowledge, my classmates didnt and they didnt past the tests that were given to them.

Pffffffffff!!! rude..

I finished a EKG Course in Oct. and have since then put out many resumes. Not one phone call for an interview yet...I know its been only 2 months but it seems like forever! I really hope something works out for me soon, till then I need to practice my rhythms because I can already feel myself forgetting. FYI...im comming out of 10 years of sales experience so my resume doesnt look all that great as far is experience goes.

You're gonna have to lie on your resume...It's that simple....most hospitals require a yr experience....but how are suppose to get the experience when no one will hire you.

Stay on top of your rhythms because all hospitals will test you and get some strong references together, preferably, charge nurses.

But once you're in, you're in. Very easy job, with decent pay, especially here in san franscico/bay area.

Good luck to all

Wow, that is incredibly rude. What is wrong with wanting to better yourself? I think you are the one with the attitude problem.
