Anyone Interested in Permanent/Full-Time Underwriting?

I've spoken to a lot of Underwriters, whether DE or non-DE, who seem to be quite content with Contract positions. These positions are neither guaranteed nor connected to any sort of benefits. I just wanted to gain some insight into why these types of positions are preferred to more stable, permanent ones.

You are correct that there is no guarantee or benefits with contract assignments. There is really no guarantee when you are an employee either. I have seen several employee over the years being escorted out of the office due to cutbacks. But of course there are the benefits.
There contract companies that offer paid holidays and vacations after a certain number of hours have been worked.

For me the only advantage to contracting is the higher salary. Usually considerably higher than you would earn working locally. Money isn't everything but it is a necessity.

Personally, I would enjoy a job in my hometown, being able to have dinner with my family, participating in holidays and birthdays. Unfortunately, the local jobs are few and far between.

I'm looking for permanent work in either Seattle or California but I'm having trouble finding it. Most of the banks will only hire temps. Very frustrating.
