New nanny, family just lost their pet. What to do?

I just started nannying for a family about 2 weeks ago. Their young dog was just put to sleep. I am devastated, as I had grown quite attached to her in the short time I knew her. I have gone through the loss of a pet as well, so I can imagine how they feel. However, I have found myself in a new situation as a "pseudo" member of the family. How can I help the children cope? Is there anything I can do to comfort the family? I am afraid this might be a pretty unique situation, but if anyone has any advice it will be greatly appreciated!
