I'm currently working as a live in nanny and I'm living 90 miles away from home and my fiance. Everything was pretty good in the beginning however recently there have been a couple problems. Before I started working here I was told I was going to be making $250 a week. However recently I have only been getting $200 a week and this week it looks like I might only get paid $150 this week. Overall I get paid $50 a day. In addition to this I work from 6:45am till about 7:30pm - 8:30pm. Additionally there is one day a week that I work till 10pm because of date night. Also, I NEVER get paid overtime and there is no schedule. To make matters worse the father has put a timer on the router to kick me offline every night at 11:00pm - 11:45pm. So on date nights I only have internet access from 10pm - 11:45pm at the latest. Lastly, even though I work from 6:45am - 7:30pm - 8:30pm I do get family sit down meals which last about 45mins or so and about one hour break. I have talked to the wife about this but she just got mad and said she was not obligated to give me internet and that she couldn't fix it because she didn't know how. And that if she knew how that she would. I know that the father put a timer on the router but thus far I've pretended like I don't know much about it or computers. Two weeks ago I told her I was going to get a cable and she said that would be OK. Then 3-4 day went by before I bought the cable and it wasn't until the day it arrived that I got an email from her saying that her husband didn't want me touching the router because I might mess it up and it would take hours to reset. I know the husband is acting dumb like he has no idea why it kicks me offline. And I know he wants to limit me. So I'm thinking of confronting the wife and saying that either I get a schedule so I can get off work sooner so I can have my personal time or the internet needs to be fixed so I can keep working the hours I'm working. So, should I quit this job? Would you? |

Quit. They are taking advantage of you, and they certainly need to be paying you more $$$. I don't understand the need for this father to have such control over the internet--you are not accountable to him when you are on your own time using the internet. Power and control is something you don't need to deal with. |
