Singer/Nanny in Los Angeles, California 45 months ago |
I'm looking for some outside input and advice, if anyone has some. I've been working with kids for about ten years from nannying, babysitting, daycare, summer camps, before and after school programs, etc. For the past two years I've been living in Los Angeles and I was very blessed for the past two years to work for two great families. But I've been out of work now for five months and haven't seemed to come across anything part time for full time since April this year. I find this very weird because I have lots of experience and I'm very good with kids. Everyone always tells me my references give me raving reviews (which I know that they do, we still keep in touch), and that I seem lovely, but for whatever reason they always decide to go another direction. Nanny agencies have told me not to wear make up, and not to wear perfume on interviews, to basically go looking pretty blah. Which has never been me, and I'm not about to start not being who I am and fake being something I'm not. I've always gotten jobs based on me being me. Nannying, yes is my day job. Living in LA I do have other goals I am actively participating in right now. I'm a singer and run a record label as well. But those things have never interrupted my day job. I'm not sure why families are acting intimidated by my long term goals lately. It's LA. There are lots of singers, actresses, models, etc holding down other jobs while they work on their career. So this shouldn't be anything surprising. In fact my previous families have always found it beneficial and fun for the kids to learn about something new they normally wouldn't. Did I just luck out big time with the past two families? Or do I literally have a do not hire sign hanging over my forehead? Any advice on what to do? Or why nothing seems to pan out lately? |
