What are the top 3 traits or skills every nanny must have to excel? Can you suggest any tips or insights to develop your nanny expertise? |

Every nanny must be trustworthy, relationally adept with both children and adults and astute in determining the priorities (stated or unstated) of her particular clients and managing to them. Nanny expertise is developed as situations unfold and resources are broght to bear to address them. The skill set does not diverge significantly from other relational dynamics. Reading, research and networking with other nannies, teachers, parents etc are also invaluable. |

I think patience and an ability to multitask are key as is an ability to communicate effectively to both children and adults. It also helps to have a good sense of humor, creativity and imagination. You should also be able to research activities in your area. |

I think CPR certification and first aid training are key elements to a successful career as a professional nanny. I found this great website that has extensive information and amazing resources. You should check it out www.howtofindananny.com/category/health-safety/cprfirst-aid/. |

All of past replies are nice, but I believe a nanny has to be well-educated to mold the minds of young children. You have to think fast when an emergency arises. And you have to provide accurate "lessons" to children. Know why children are doing and saying the things they do, and what to say back to them that makes sense to them! |
