Hi - I currently have a live-in nanny, who I adore - and who has taken care of my daughter from 5mos to 2 1/2 years, and I'd like to get others opinions on what an adequate compensation increase would be for the addition of another child. Our nanny works 45 hours per week (is paid overtime for anything in excess) and is responsible for caring for our daughter - her duties are the same as the duties outlined by the Au Pair program. She isn't required to do any household cleaning, cooking, etc. But, she does take care of the grocery shopping (at least partially) quite a bit just to pitch in and help out. She'll also run errands if I'm in a pinch - and both of these things add a lot of value for me.

Anyhow, per our current arrangement, we pay our nanny a weekly salary of $300 and offer the following perks/compensation:
- her own separate vehicle for personal and work use
- auto insurance
- fuel costs (we pay for all fuel)
- a cell phone (a robust plan that costs $70 a month)
- private room and bath
- a laptop computer and a desktop (for her exclusive use)
- we pay for all food eaten in the house
- we pay for all personal care items (shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, razors, etc)
- $500 tuition allowance for each semester enrolled in school
- we pay for all necessary school supplies
- a gym membership
- we give her an annual bonus of $300 (on week's pay)
- 8 paid holidays and 3 weeks paid time off
- During the Christmas holiday, her mother is allowed to visit from South America for 4 weeks (in our home and is treated like family)- we contribute $200 to airfare
- During the summer, her sister visits from South America for 3 weeks (in our home and is also treated like family)- we contribute $200 to airfare

And I think that probably sums it all up. So, my question is - based on what we're currently offering, what is a reasonable/fair increase for the second child?

Well i think if you were not giving her all what you say you are giving her then it would have been $300 hundred more but i think the best offer is $225,because when i was working in Manhattan and doing the same thing i used to get $700 hundred per week plus if i stay 1/2 an hour over time i used to get $50 more so i hope this was helpfull ok.

i think what your paying is fine. The thing is, she is getting a lot of perks. it does matter how old she is though. depends howmuch she is spening and where she comes from. (the kind of family)
-other than that i feel that is reasonable.

Wow, can I move to your neighborhood? :) I think what she's getting now is amazing because of the perks. I would take that any day. I currently am live-out so I pay for rent, food, utilities, personal things, fuel and my own car. And I get paid about $430 a week. And, I have a bachelor's degree in Child Development and Family Relations and a minor in Psychology. I graudated cumlaude with an internship from a behavioral health agency. If I could have $300/week fully to myself (no rent to pay, etc.) I could pay off my loans so much faster! That would be the life. If you did give her a raise, let her know she's the luckiest nanny in the world :)
