Hello everyone. I hope this is an appropriate place to start this thread. I'm interested in becoming microsoft certified and I'm not even sure where to start. Anyone have suggestions/experiences with online courses, books or local classroom type courses? I'd like to acquire the proper books and begin to study, but I'm not sure which ones are the best to start with. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. |

I bought Network Essentials and TCP/IP books from New Riders with software to setup a network. After working with them for about 6 months, I took the MCP exam locally at Shreveport. Bear in mind that it is an Adaptive exam in that it gives you the hardest question in each category first and can then be between 80 and 230 total questions. You put up your money ($100 at the time) and takes your chances. You will know immediately of your outcome. Good luck. Ken |

If you wish to get an Microsoft Certification you need to see what core courses you need to take. For any certification you need to start out on the basic. Such as Networking+ and a End System Operating system such as Windows XP Pro. Once you have these certificattions you may now look at what type you wont to get. Do you wont to be server support? Security?. All these are questions you need to ask your self. I went down the road os security and got my CompTIA S+, Server+, Networking+. You might want to go ahead and pick up some books for your CCNA also. Since most companys use cisco devices. If you also want to base your information on Security you might wont to look into Ethical Hacker Certifications. For an employer they will look at this as if you just dont know how to run it you also know how to keep the bad guys out. I have seen alot of network admins have head up in there AO. They think they know whats going on, but in my eyes I could give them a bad day on there own network. Now if you wont to Master the internet. Learn the Basic of C++/C and you will be like" o ya that just happened!" |
