I am considering relocation to Florida and am having an very difficult time locating the NP rules/statutes for the state. I found all kinds of statutes regarding licensure....but cant seem to find the statutes and rules that define the scope of practice issues such as collaborative rules, prescriptive priveledges, ect. I have never had this difficult of a time trying to find the information for a state....and it appears that actually contacting the Florida Board of Nursing by phone is impossible. I have left multiple messages in the last few weeks and not one call was returned as they stated it would be. Can anyone help????!!!!! Susan |

Hi Susan, we have to have collaborative agreements with a doc and we can't rx any scheduled meds. Florida is one of the worst states to practice in and I'd not recommend moving here. The wages are very very low and the cost of living very very high. My friend got a job in Miami working at a retail clinic for $40/hr and another friend in TX got the same job, same retail company making $47/hr. Cost of living in TX is 18% lower than FL. I get job offers for salary below what an RN makes, or for what a construction worker makes for that matter. Just be prepared for that should you decide you have to move here. Good luck either way. |

You are on target. I am currently enrolled to complete by Adult Health NP, living in FL; Through my assigned research, I have found FL regulation for NPs very antiquated and conflictive to national standards. Hearing your impression of pay is also very disheartening. With all that is going on with Medicare cuts, and doctors so "desperate" to attract NPs to make their numbers work, this does not seem reasonable. But what is EVER reasonable in healthcare? Maria |
