As a recruitment firm, hospitals, companies, and local governments use us to recruit talent. An example of a few locations still desperate for workers that are paying the range I spoke of can be found at the below address.

I heard about some international nurses came to Canada through agents, resigning their job and sold properties, to settle in Canada. They were offered such high figures but was for the northern provinces. Due to the extreme climatic conditions, they could not continue and had to go back. Is there any reason they could not work in southern parts?

There should not be any reason they could not work in other parts of Canada as long as they passed the Canadian Registered Nurse Exam and have the right immigration status.
However, if they signed a contract that said they would stay for a certain length of time and did not do that, perhaps it is an immigration issue and they did not have the right papers to stay in the country.

The reason why they could not work in southern parts of Canada is that in major cities in Canada, they always ask for "CANADIAN EXPERIENCE". Can you imagine an internationally-educated nurse who is highly qualified but have not been nor have worked in CANADA being asked if he/she has "CANADIAN EXPERIENCE"?

I hope I answered your question.

Hi everyone
I am a nursing student who got residency in Canada.I will have to move there straightaway after completing my nursing and getting NZ registration to prevent my PR from lapsing.I am really worried i won't get a job in Calgary (where i'm planning on settling) as i will have an overseas education and on top of that no experience as a new graduate. Will i have to end up doing some more studies even to get the registration in Calgary? also does Canada have a special program for New graduates where they can work with somebody's guidance for upto 10 months, still get paid to enable the transition from a student to an RN

you have to know where you are going to live and apply for your nursing license through the regulatory nursing authority for that province.

Once you have permission to write the Canadian Registered Nurse Exam you can apply for work.

Yes they can ask for anything that they need to evaluate if your education is equivalent to the university education required in Canada.
The syllabus will tell them about the content of the courses you took for your degree.

The College is required by law, to make sure that nurses are prepared at the level required for Canada. Their mandate is protection of the public. They can ask for any proof they need.

The Canadian health care system is different than the USA, and our education system is different as well. In order to receive a degree in nursing here in Canada you would have to go to school for a minimum of 16 years. (12 years of high school and 4 yrs of university).
It does not matter if your credentials were evaluated for practice in the US as Canada is a different country and has a strong public accountability framework.
I know it is frustrating for you...I am not sure you can negotiate with the College but perhaps there is a different way to get the information you need rather than copying an entire syllabus.

For example if you could get the course outlines for the courses you took while at university (not your transcript as that is a record of course completion) that might suffice.

Hi everyone,
My mother holds a B.Sc nursing with 26 yrs experience in Immuno haemotology and transfusion medicine, provided she can work in any department in nursing. After my dad passed away, myself and mom wanted to settle in overseas. Now, my doubt is.. will my mom get a job there ( she will write the CRNE exam too). are there any precautions she needs to take before she takes up a job? Will it be any easy to find a job with all the 26yrs experience she had?

I am a RN who works in Jamaica. I have my bachelors of science in nursing and I am a member of Nurses Association of Jamaica. I was told that Jamaica has a reciprocal relationship with some provinces in Canada so my Jamaican nursing license could be used in Canada. So I wouldn't need a Canadian license. Is that true? If so, which provinces?

There is no such thing as a reciprocal agreement between any country and Canada for a nursing license. Whoever told you that does not know what they are talking about.

In order to get a nursing license in Canada you must meet the requirements of the provincial nursing college in the province that you choose to live.
Their responsibility is protection of the public. They cannot protect the public if they have reciprocal agreements.

Therefore your application will be reviewed to determine if you have the entry level competencies for a nurse in Canada. If the review of your education and experience shows this then you will be granted permission to write the Canadian Registered Nurse Exam. Once you pass the exam your registration can be completed.
A couple of things to note:
entry to practice requirement in all provinces is a university degree but they all apply that requirement differently for nurses who have experience.
Entry level competencies include those required for community health nursing and they are tested on the CRNE.
Entry level competencies also include knowledge of primary health care, social determinants of health and the structure , values, organization and expectations of the Canadian health care system as this forms an important context for all the questions on the CNRE and of course for professional nursing practice as well.

People ask for a reference because they want to know if someone else who has hired you would hire you again.
Employers are afraid of hiring people who will not work out because it is very difficult to fire someone if they are in a union.
Employers want to make sure that the person they hire will in fact be able to assume the role of the registered nurse in the Canadian health care system.
Many employers have found through experience that this is not the case, and to go to the trouble of hiring someone only to have them "not work out" is not only expensive but can be heartbreaking.
I am sure you want to be successful in your employment. I would suggest you attend a re-entry program especially for internationally educated nurses because you will get a reference from that school and that will improve your chances of success in your employment.

"...at least we guys are fully capable to do jobs at nursing homes or care centres."

This comment reflects a very poor understanding of the role of the registered nurse in the Canadian health care system which may be your problem. Your comment suggests that working in a nursing home or a care center is somehow "less" of a job or that it does not require the same level of skill and judgement as working in an acute care hospital.

Nurses who work in geriatric settings have challenging jobs that require leadership skills. They get paid the same money as nurses who work in ICU. The working conditions are different but nurses in any setting must still apply professional nursing knowledge and skills.
